2012-06-25

CMSA Executive Director Daryl Leinweber and Bryan Robson in discussion.

Bryan Robson was asked what it would take for Canada to improve its World Cup Standings at “An Evening with Bryan Robson” at the Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre on the weekend. He was in Calgary to work with coaches and elite teams in private practice sessions and soccer camps.

Robson stated that it comes down to improving coaching of the kids at a young age. “…the better the coaching, the better the players that Canada will produce….leading to a better team from our country… our job is to concentrate on Coach Education so that our coaches will improve our players. “

Robson started his soccer career at West Bromwich Albion prior to moving to Manchester United.  There, he played in 345 games, scoring 74 goals and was dubbed Captain Marvel by the press and fans alike. He captained Manchester United for 12 years and was skipper to Team England on 65 occasions.  In 90 games for the Three Lions, Robson scored 26 goals.  Throughout his illustrious career, Robson won such important trophies as the FA Premier League (1993, 1994), FA Cup (1983, 1985, and 1990); League Cup (1992), UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1991) and the UEFA Super Cup (1991).

CMSA has been making Coach Education top priority over the past year with important programs such as “Respect in Soccer” supported by Shane Homes and Coach Survival Courses supported by both Shane Homes for the U8 league  and Tim Hortons’ for the U6 Grassroots teams.  CMSA is committed to providing coaches with the skills needed to make Calgary a leader in Soccer Coach Education.
